Mass absenteeism affecting normal academics in Surankote

Poonch, Sept 22: Academic at several schools in various villages in Surankote tehsil are affected due to prevailing absenteeism in schools under jurisdiction of Surankote zone sources said here today.
According to local sources, the maximum schools of Buffliaz in Surankote zone remain closed most of the times courtesy prevalent absenteeism among teaching faculty and this is taking toll of the normal academic session of the students enrolled in these schools.
The villagers alleged that schools often are found closed or the students were seen playing in the premises of the school while observing an unofficial holiday as there are less number of teachers present in school.
They also alleged that in teachers in remote areas always remained absent from duties and the future of their children is at risk. "The absenteeism among teaching faculty also shows that the supervisory in these areas which are remote and far flung is very weak as a result of which many teachers in the schools do not attend or do not teach the students.
"Education department in the district is lying defunct totally as the authorities have failed to provide staff to the schools in rural areas as per the requirement," lamented one of the students on anonymity.
Meanwhile sources in education department said, "The schools remain closed most of the time not only due to shortage of staff but due to lack of infrastructure also.
"Several schools are running in open as no building is there for the children and if it rains or hostile weather conditions schools authorities are forced to close the school. "Besides this, several schools have no bathrooms and other facilities, sources said, adding, "midday meal scheme too was a failure due to sub-standard material being provided."
Locals have demanded from the concerned educational authorities to streamline the education system so that studies of students in far remote areas may not suffer.
