Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 23: A police officer posted in Jammu district is alleged to have got a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for releasing two heroin smugglers and a man, who was caught with a woman, without registration of any case against them. He struck both the deals without taking the SHOs of concerned police stations into confidence, police sources alleged. Giving details, sources said police apprehended two car-borne youth a day or two back along with heroin. Both were arrested and taken to the concerned police station where they were lodged in the lockup. The senior officer's 'karyakhas', however, allegedly struck a deal with them. When he told his boss that the deal had been struck with the accused, the latter asked the SHO concerned to let them go along with their car, sources alleged. The second deal was struck by the karyakhas with a man, who was caught with a woman by the cops of another police station. This man was also beaten at the police station. A bribe of Rs 70,000 was alleged to have been taken by the karyakhas to free this man, sources said. This way, the senior officer 'earned' Rs 1 lakh overnight, the sources added. The officer, however, got a shock Friday when he came to know that his senior had ordered the transfer of his karyakhas, an ASI. By ordering his transfer on complaint basis, the senior officer had clipped his junior's wings.
