BJP legislators want security at par with Mantris !

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 23: BJP's legislators are in new race seen as one upmanship in having security cover which many of them want at par with ministers. The security wing of Police in the state is learnt to under pressure from these legislators who are seeking more than what they at present in terms of security as also the vehicles for their movement- all in the name of threat perception.
Sources said while they are citing renewed wave of militancy and sentiment of secession in Kashmir as a result of which PDP legislators have become vulnerable to attacks, the perceived threat to them in Jammu is far from being real since the situation is different in the two regions. Sources further said some BJP MLAs are referring to need of strengthening their security on this pretext that they have to visit far flung and remote areas in their constituencies in hilly areas where they can be become soft targets of anti national elements without proper security cover.
However, party insiders said this is nothing but a sense of competition among the legislators in having the security cover at par with the ministers, though entitlement is different for the two categories. There is no renewed vulnerability nor any perceived threat to any legislator, not even to those representing far flung constituencies, sources said adding that it is only a race for status and attention seeking method for which they are mounting pressure on the Security wing of the Police. This wing is already burdened with such demands of providing security cover from political and non political entities and BJP legislators' pressure is only proving to be a stressful dimension under present circumstances, sources further said.
It is not only the security cover, some legislators have been pestering the security wing authorities to make available new security vehicles as the ones already provided, according to them, are worn out, old lot which needs to be replaced. There is demand from some to increase the security cover at both the houses in city as well in their constituencies, which is proving to be a heavy and costly exercise for the Security wing. This race is both among the legislators as well in competition with the ministers, sources further said.
