MGNREGA liabilities touch Rs 52.73 cr in Kishtwar 9/23/2016 11:25:55 PM Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Kishtwar, Sept 23: Following the government failure to release sufficient funds under MGNREGA to Kishtwar for 2015-16 and 2016-17, the liability in 13 blocks of the district has crossed Rs 52 cr mark. The act guarantees 100 job days to each job card holder in rural areas of the country and payments are to be released within 15 days in favour of job card holders, but in Kishtwar district, all such rules and regulations were being flouted. According to official sources, department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj had Rs 116.6314 cr MGNREGA liability. "Out of this amount, the department received only Rs 64 cr this year, which means there is a net liability of Rs 52.73143 cr," sources said. As per details, Mughal Maidan block tops the list of liability with Rs 11.3579 cr followed by Drabshala block of Inderwal constituency with 7.6952 cr liability, Marwah with 4.3588 cr, Nagsini with 4.2384 cr, Inderwalwith 4.1162 cr, Thakrie with 3.8734 cr, Dachhan with 3.8399 cr, Padder with 3.6723 cr and Bhunjwah with Rs 3.0211 cr. Among the other blocks Palmar contribute with 1.5776 Crore, Trigham with 1.0521 Crore, Warwan with 78.72 lakhs are the liabilities with other blocks of the Kishtwar District. Similar is the case with adjoining Doda District where there was also huge liabilities in account of MGNREGA. When contacted, a senior RDD official said all the relevant details pertaining to MGNREGA liabilities in the district had been submitted to the government and 'we are hoping for its early release'. He also attributed the delay to ongoing disturbance in Kashmir valley and added that the matter will be taken up with the concern minister who is likely to hold a review meeting of the department at Kishtwar on coming Sunday.
