Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 18: Putting all speculations at rest , the NC led coalition Government today gave clearance to the name of Mohammad Iqbal Khanday as the new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. Khanday's name was unequivocally approved by all the members of the Cabinet when it was taken as most important agenda of the meeting held in Secretariat today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Even as there were at least three front runners for the coveted post, two of them senior to Khanday, the latter became unanimous choice on account of his administrative skills, calibre and capacity to delivery on the highest post of bureaucracy in the sensitive State. Khanday had also edge over Parvez Dewan and Anil Goswami , the two IAS officers aspirants and strong contenders for Chief Secretary's post, due to the fact that almost all through his career he has remained on top posts in the State . It is the merit of his complete and thorough knowledge about the hierarchy in bureaucracy at all levels and hierarchy in Civil Secretariat that made him unanimous choice for the post.
The need for appointing new Chief Secretary was necessitated following the appointment of Madhav Lal as Secretary, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Government of India. While in the meeting, the Cabinet approved the appointment of Khanday IAS (JK:1978) as the new Chief Secretary. Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B.B. Vyas will hold the charge of Finance Department in addition to his own duties till further orders.
