Congress district president Ganderbal alleges deceit, resigns
2/19/2013 12:07:41 AM

Mustansir
srinagar, Feb 18: In major setback to Kashmir Congress, District President Ganderbal, Sheikh Ishfaq, today resigned from the party in protest against what he termed 'deceit ' by the PCC.'
Sheikh Ishfaq who contested 2008 elections on Congress ticket from Ganderbal constituency against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and got some 10,000 votes, resigned today from the Congress party.
Talking exclusively to the Early Times this evening, Ishfaq alleged that the Congress high command including president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi had promised him berth in the Upper House on merits but the State Unit of Congress ditched him and nominated another Congress leader Advocate Muzaffar Parray from Kashmir for berth in the Legislative Council.
"I resigned from the Congress party in protest and submitted my resignation to the party president Sonia Gandhi" Ishfaq told Early Times on phone.
Sheikh Ishfaq alleged that the party leadership in the State has deceived him and claimed that the party high command was favouring his nomination. "I was assured by madam Sonia and Rahul Gandhi and in-charge Kashmir Mohan Prakash last evening. But I was shocked when the State Unit of Congress nominated Muzaffar Parray in utter disregard to the party high command's decision", Sheikh Ishfaq said. Ishfaq claimed he was the only potential person in Kashmir Congress which was recognized by none less than the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. He claimed that he was being asked by the party to organize high profile public meetings but when it came for the recognition of his work he was ditched. The Congress leader said that it was a handy work of State unit of Congress which came under influence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and dropped him at his behest because CM was fearing a tough contest in Ganderbal from him.
He said that there was tremendous pressure on him from his workers to resign and he took this hard decision in respect to the sentiments of his workers in Ganderbal.
Meanwhile, Congress nominee from Kashmir advocate Muzaffar Parray has expressed his gratitude to the Congress party for nominating him to the Upper House. Talking to the Early Times on phone Muzaffar Parray termed his nomination as recognition of his 30 year service he rendered to the Congress party. "I am a loyalist Congress party worker and I gave 100% to the party during last 30 years. It is recognition of my services I have rendered to the party while holding different organizational positions", Parray said.
