Rana files papers for another LC term | Is NC uncertain about Nagrota in 2014? | |
Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 18: Filing of nomination papers for another term as the member of Legislative Council by National Conference provincial president Devendra Rana is being seen as party's lack of confidence on Rana to be able to win Nagrota Assembly constituency for it in the 2014 elections. Rana had been holding rallies in the constituencies and investing lot of his time here, and it was understood that he would contest Assembly elections from this constituency. However, with Rana given the party responsibility for the Jammu province, it is being inferred that Party may not bet on him for winning from here. Nagrota Assembly constituency is presently represented by Bharatiya Janta Party State president Jugal Kishore and is the second time MLA from the constituency. During 2002 Assembly elections, Kishore was the lone BJP MLA and had won from Nagrota constituency. He cemented this seat in 2008 elections, when BJP got 11 seats and had defeated grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, Ajat Shatru Singh. Rana has been trying hard to get popular support in the constituency but many believe that he has already smelled defeat even before contesting and that is why he has considered it safe to be MLC for another term. The incident is also being seen as an example of sagging confidence within the ruling NC with regards to next Assembly elections. |
