While being together they differ with each other | Rahul-Omar bonhomie on ventilator | | Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, Nov 7: They were supposed to share the dais and they shared it but that does not mean the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah could brush aside rather afford to brush aside the fast emerging differences between the two coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir. Because it is actually about politics and in politics bulls chase lizards and rats marry snacks. Here in Lasipora town in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is also president of National Conference before, during and after the rally which was jointly addressed by the two leaders, tried to conciliate Rahul while as the Congress scion, with a smiling face, made his point emphatically clear. And from today's joint public rally if anybody draws the conclusion that Rahul-Omar bonhomie is there where it was when Rahul visited Srinagar in 2012, he is wrong. Carrying forward what he has said in Jammu on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi while addressing the rally at Pulwama today said that UPA Government has focused on three issues in Jammu and Kashmir which are women empowerment, employment to youth and empowerment of Panchayats. Rahul advised the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to adopt the 73rd amendment of the Indian Constitution so that Panchayats could be empowered. About the incident which took place at his Jammu rally, Rahul said that whosoever protested during his rally at Jammu on Wednesday was right. "They didn't do anything wrong. They were demanding empowerment of Panchayats." Rahul categorically stressed upon J&K Government to adopt the 73rd amendment of the Indian Constitution so that Panchayats could be empowered. Earlier, Omar Abdullah revealed during his lecture that the protester in Jammu function was a worker of Panthers Party. He said that he could not understand the aim of the Panthers Party worker. "I want to inform Rahul Sahab that one who protested against you in Jammu a day before was worker of Panthers Party," Omar said adding "I still could not understand his aim of protesting, was he there for disruption or to belittle me." Answering Omar, Rahul termed the protester "right". He said, "Whoever was the protester, I think he was rightly demanding the empowerment of Panchayats." He advised Omar to implement the 73rd Constitutional amendment as soon as possible so that Panchayats are empowered. The Chief Minister, during his address tried to clarify that the committee constituted for the reservations in block and district level Panchayat elections has yet not produced its report. "The empowerment of Panchayats is not only the matter of the implementation of Constitutional amendments, the committee which was formed to notify the reservations for block and district level Panchayat elections, is yet to submit its report," Omar said and added "The Panchayati Raj members also stress only for funds which is not a positive approach." Later, addressing the workers at Congress party headquarters in Srinagar, Rahul Gandhi termed party workers as "backbone of Congress" and pitched for their larger involvement in the decision making of the party. Terming the party workers as the most important component of the party, he said: "One can become MLA or Minister after being a worker, but the reverse can't happen," he said making Congress workers to erupt in loud chanting and cheering. "My entire focus is on party workers, so that their voice is heard not only at state level, but at Central level as well. I will do whatever I can, to strengthen the workers." Rahul said that workers often complain that at the time of party ticket distribution, they aren't being considered. "I want to bring a gradual change in it. After that, workers should themselves say that party took them on board and decided after considering their suggestions," he says. Rahul said that Block and District levels need to be strengthened for the overall empowerment of workers. He cautioned Congress Ministers to pay heed to party workers, "otherwise it might affect your chances to earn a ticket." |
