| Venue of UMEED function changed from Khansahib to Budgam | | Annoyed over move, MLA writes to Rahul, Jairam Ramesh | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 7: Even as the schedule of Congress Vice president Rahul Gandhi continued today at different parts without any 'dramatics' in Kashmir valley , it did conclude with a political controversy , this time in selection of the place for organising one of the functions of addressing UMEED scheme beneficiaries in district Budgam. The venue of the place was changed suddenly from Khansahib block to Budgam in the last minute change of mind of those at the helm of organising things, leaving the people of the concerned block angry and disappointed which prompted the concerned MLA to write a letter to Rahul Gandhi and Union Minister Jai Ram Ramesh .
Rahul Gandhi continued his political sojourn in the state albeit with his hectic schedule for second day along with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Kashmir Valley. One of the occasions was to address beneficiaries of UMEED scheme, an initiative of UPA Government for women. Rahul came with great hope obviously to accrue political benefits and Chief Minister accompanied him for a reason on similar lines. Rahul trumpeted the welfare oriented schemes and real intent of Congress led UPA at Centre to give benefits to people of the state, for this scheme the women being in focus, little knowing that on the hind scene the political stalwarts at the helm had punctured the balloon of what UPA may be wanting in such apolitical ventures. However this got punctured as there was politics and more politics even in organising the function for the purpose.
Sources said for the last few days preparations were going on in Khansahib which was originally chosen as one of the blocks in Kashmir Valley for launching this Scheme early this year when it started with great fanfare . However, in the middle of these preparations, those at the helm of organising the function suddenly made it known to people engaged with making arrangements that venue had been changed to Budgam, without citing any specific reason, sources said . What made the swift pace of developments look shady and with some political motive behind the move is the fact that neither was concerned MLA taken into confidence about this nor did the organisers deem it proper to invite him to the function which saw galaxy of other politicians from both the ruling allies. The move has not only annoyed the people of Kahnsahib, who see it as humiliation by both the parties , sources said adding that it has also prompted Hakim Mohammad Yasin to write an angry note to visiting dignitaries that by changing the venue for political benefits, those at the helm are only demeaning the centrally sponsored schemes which are otherwise beneficial and result oriented ventures of the UPA Government . |
