Rahul Gandhi issues warning to Congress Ministers, hints at change of mandate for next Assembly elections | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Nov 7: Hinting towards a change in the mandate of Congress candidates for the next year's Assembly elections in the state, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Vice-President, Rahul Gandhi today pulled up the Congress Ministers for their disconnect with party workers at the ground level. Addressing the Congress Ministers, leaders and delegates at Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) headquarters here, Rahul said that he has received complaints against the Congress Ministers that they are seldom in contact with the party workers. He said this does not augur well since party workers form the back-bone of the party. "I have been receiving complaints that the Ministers of Congress are not in contact with the party workers. The suggestions and views being put forward by the workers are not listened to by the Ministers. If you don't fall in line then we may think on different lines as and when mandate is given at the time of elections," said Congress Vice-President. Rahul said that due respect needs to be given to the workers of the party since they form the important component. He said that party workers would be taken into confidence as and when the mandate is decided for the next year's elections. He accepted that in past workers were never consulted whenever party leaders took a decision about the mandate in any part of the state. "District Committees and Block Committees would be taken into confidence at the time of deciding about the mandate for the assembly elections. We have started this process for the elections being held in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi in near future. Workers have some rights and these have been neglected so far. But I assure you that due representation would be given to them and there would be no further neglect," said Congress Vice-President. Rahul said that mandate should be given to leaders who are in constant touch with the party workers and not to those people who neglect this all important aspect. He said that youth should join the party adding that Congress has been making inroads in every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir. AICC General Secretary and in-charge Jammu and Kashmir, Ambika Soni said that Congress party is pursuing the dream of former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi in complete empowerment of Panchayats across the country. Soni said that Jammu and Kashmir is second home to Rahul Gandhi and it is due to this reason that he has visited state thrice during the last one year. JKPCC President, Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz complemented the UPA Government for bringing legislations like Right to Information Act, Land Acquisition Bill, Food Security Bill and Right to Education. Soz said that Congress Vice-President has expressed displeasure over the non-empowerment of Panchayati Raj institutions in Jammu and Kashmir adding that his (Soz) performance has also come under criticism at times. |
