Factionalism continues in Congress as supporters of Taj, Sham clash with each other

SRINAGAR, Nov 7: Differences among the leaders and workers of Congress party yet again came to the fore as supporters of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister, Sham Lal Sharma clashed with those owing allegiance to Minister for Health and Medical Education, Taj Mohi-ud-Din.
Much before to the arrival of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Vice-President, Rahul Gandhi at the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) headquarters here, supporters of Health and Medical Education Minister objected to the praises showered by a youth leader on the nature and behavior of PHE Minister.
In his speech, Youth Congress leader Abid Kashmiri said that Sham accords warm welcome to even the petty worker of the party as and when he visits him. Abid said that PHE Minister gives a rousing reception to all the members of Congress party irrespective of the position held by them in the party.
As Abid was delivering his speech some of the supporters of Taj stood up and said that they have not come to listen to praises of PHE Minister. These Congress workers said that Abid should be vacated from the dais so that there is no big confrontation. But this did not deter Abid who carried on with his speech. He continued with praises for Sham thus fuelling anger among the supporters of H&ME Minister.
The supporters of Taj raised slogans in his favour and urged the dais incharge to bring Taj to stage so that he delivers his speech. The sloganeering forced Abid to vacate the scene leading to cheers from Taj supporters. He could be seen fuming after getting a banging from his fellow workers of the party.
PCC Congress Vice-President, Mohammad Muzaffar Parray tried to pacify the emotions on both sides and said that leaders along with workers should desist from giving controversial speeches. Interestingly, Parray used to repeat that nobody would say anything against the leaders adding that this would lead to indiscipline. He said that there may be differences in the state unit of Congress but same should not be presented before the AICC Vice-President.
Some of the delegates raised their concern over the restricted entry at the function. These delegates said that workers who have been associated with the party for decades have been left out during the programme. These people suggested that entry should have been free and not on production of delegate card as decided by the organizers.
