Niaz tastes anger, chilly demands Tehsil status

JAMMU, Feb 2: Congress Sarpanches and other prominent figures of Chilly and its adjoining areas are up in arms against the MLA Bhaderwah Mohammad Sharief Naz for his alleged failure in representing aspirations of majority of people of Chilly during Cabinet Sub Committee in which the far flung and deserving area of the Chilly was deprived from Tehsil as well as the block status. While address a Press Conference at Jammu, President Sarpanch Association Bhellesa Sheikh Manier Ahmed who is also Sarpanch Halqa Chilly Bala said that Cabinet subcommittee on creation of new administrative units headed by Dy. CM Tara Chand in its report presented before cabinet a day before has approved creation of Tehsil named as Chilly-Pengal in Bhalessa with its headquarter at Tendla.
He said that the creation of this Tehsil instead of giving relief to the people has created more problems for the people as the Tehsil HQ is about 31 Km away from few areas Chilly-Pengal particularly those areas bordering neighbouring Himachal Pradesh state. Beside Manier Ahmed Sheikh, several prominent figure of the area including Ali Mohammad, Nazir Ahmed Kichloo , Abdul Majeed Butt, Hajji Mohammad Iqbal , Musrat Hussain , Shah Din Malik ,Mushtaq Malik during a press conference threatened to launch an agitation in case the government fails to address the public concern and choose a suitable place which will be centrally located as the headquarter of the newly announced Tehsil.
All leaders alleged that instead of making Tehsil in centrally located place for Chilly, CSC without taking care geographical demography of Chilly-Pengal area into consideration declared tehsil headquarter at Tendla which is more far off from Gundoh headquarter . They also informed that more than 80% population in Chilly is Schedule Tribe and living below the poverty line.
They said that state government instead of providing sucker to the people of this far flung area, adopted discriminatory attitude towards them while granting new administrative units. They said that in some cases, blocks were sanctioned for four to five existing Panchayats, while chilly area having eight Panchayats was ignored.
They urged upon the union Health Minister to use his personal influence for granting block and Naibat status to Chilly. They also warned the government that in case their demands were not addressed, the people are happy to prefer Gandoh as its Tehsil headquarter.
