JAMMU, Apr 10: Sonia Gandhi's right hand man Defence Minister A K Antony, who brought bad name to India a number of times and outraged the nation by pandering to the Pakistani butchers, is feeling extremely angry these days. What has angered him is the BJP election manifesto 2014 that recommended a comprehensive debate on Article 370 of the Indian Constitution under which the solitary State of Jammu & Kashmir enjoys a separate status and reiterated the party's age old stand on this pernicious Article. The BJP, like the Ladakhis, people of Jammu province, including the SCs, the STs, the OBCs, the refugees from West Pakistan and the minorities like the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs, wants the abrogation of Article 370. It was imposed on the unwilling nation by the Congress and its Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru way back in October 1949 to create a high communal wall between the state and the rest of the country overlooking the fact that the proportions of the two major communities in the state was 60:40.
What did Antony, who on behalf of the Congress party has already conceded defeat and urged the "secular" parties like the CPI, the CPI-M, the SP, the BSP and so on to form in alliance with the Congress third front after the election results are out on May 16 so that the BJP-led NDA is prevented from forming the next government at the centre, say about the BJP election manifesto? He on Tuesday at Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) said: "The BJP manifesto is nothing but its communal agenda wrapped in colorful paper. It is a threat to the unity and integrity of the country...The BJP's move to reopen debate on Article 370 is fraught with dangerous consequences, which would only help extremists and divisive elements".
His whole formulation was nothing but a manifestation of his belief in the two-nation theory. Every one knows that Article 370 was adopted a temporary provision much to the chagrin of those who believed that this Article would not only hamper the process of the state's political, constitutional and emotional integration with India, promote communalism and separatism in the Valley, crush the minorities and deny them their natural rights available under the Indian Constitution, but would also create a serious doubt in the minds of the international community about the political status of Jammu & Kashmir. It is hardly necessary to point out that all the Kashmiri leaders, without any exception, and Pakistan and other hostile nations, including many which constitute the European Union, have been exploiting Article 370 to create an impression that Jammu & Kashmir is a disputed region.
It is disgusting that the country's Defense Minister commended Article 370 that has caused immense damage to the state and its people as well as the nation and the country as a whole. Article 370 has to go lock, stock and barrel if India is to survive as a nation and the people of the state to exercise all the rights which are available to all of their counterparts in the rest of the country.
