Alliance or no alliance: Cong leadership looks helpless | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 10: State leadership of Congress seems to be in helpless situation because high command is not ready to accept their demand of going alone in the coming Assembly elections. The factions ridden State unit of Congress has shown unity in unanimously asking the high command not to enter into pre-poll alliance with National Conference in the Assembly polls. The high command has listened to the suggestions of the state unit but no promise has been made regarding snapping of ties with the NC. Credible sources in the Congress said that a group with in party high command has argued that fighting elections jointly with the NC would help the party to retain most of the seats in Jammu province. Instead of giving importance to the suggestions of the local leaders, think tank of Congress at Delhi is giving more importance to NC leadership. Congress's think tank at Delhi wants to keep NC leadership, especially Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah in good humour so they are trying it hard that alliance between two parties should continue in Assembly elections. A group in Congress is thinking that in case party would contest elections alone, Ghulam Nabi Azad would be projected as Chief Ministerial candidate and this group is deadly against Azad so a clever move has been made to contest elections with NC to sabotage any move to project Azad as Chief Ministerial candidate. Secondly NC leadership is also trying to convince Congress high command that alliance is in the favour of both the parties. Instead of taking statements of local Congress leaders seriously, NC leadership has established direct contact with Congress high command. The helpless local leaders have no option but to accept directions from the high command and the high command is not giving much importance to their suggestions. |
