Srinagar, July 22: Fearing defeat in upcoming assembly elections after the rout to National conference (NC) during Lok Sabha elections, Abdullah's have finally decided to surrender their historical battle ground 'Ganderbal', thereby leaving Omar indecisive to select a constituency for himself. Sources said that as first list of candidates of NC Conference does not mention name of Omar Abdullah and the process of announcing further names of candidates has also halted since then, the problem lies in selecting secure constituency for Omar Abdullah who along with rest of party leaders fear defeat from historical political battle ground of Shiekh dynasty, 'Ganderbal' this time due to surprising results to NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah during the recently conclude Parliamentary elections.
One expected candidate of NC from Central Kashmir said that 'it will be a political surrender of NC in general and Shiekh dynasty in particular to leave Ganderbal first time after 1975 and added that keeping in view rout to NC in recently held parliamentary elections NC leadership fear defeat to any candidate of NC particularly to Omar Abdullah from the area.' Sources said that 'in absence of Farooq Abdullah,Omar's Success during assembly elections has became goal for party leadership, however fearing defeat it seems that Omar and NC leadership is running away from constituencies and such a situation has made Omar indecisive to select constituency for himself.
Sources said that Dr Farooq Abdullah who is in Delhi from some time and busily involved in treatments may take rest after reaching home instead of contesting upcoming assembly elections and as NC announced its first list of candidates only Main Altaf's name from Kangan constituency of Ganderbal appeared and Omar Abdullah who himself represents Ganderbal main in assembly seat was left out. Pertinently during parliamentary elections Tariq Hameed Karra of Peoples Democratic party (PDP) candidate for the Lok Sabha, polled over 3,000 votes over NC patron Farooq Abdullah and from Sonawar constituency PDP got a lead of 3,600 votes over NC as well. One top brass leader of NC informed early times that due to change in political atmosphere across the Kashmir Omar Abdullah is reluctant to contest from Ganderbal alone and while taking safer side he has wished to contest from Sonwar as well where from Muhamamd Yaseen shah is likely to say good bye to politics due to health issues.
It is worthy to mention that sheikh dynasty is contesting from Ganderbal since 1975 when the National Conference founder late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah contested from the area and despite huge setback to NC from ancestral party bastions like Ganderbal, Chadoor, Budgam, Khanyar, Eidgah, sonawar, Noorabad of South Kashmir and Handwara of North Kashmir, NC has once again decided to go with some old faces like Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, Forest Minister Mian Altaf, Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo, Consumer Affairs Minister Chowdary Muhammad Ramzan and Rural Development Minister Ali Muhammad Sagar.
