Congress on hunt for credible faces, many sitting legislators face axe | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 22: The Congress high command is preparing lists of candidates with clean public image who could be considered for the party mandate in the forthcoming Assembly elections. The party may also consider fresh faces, sources inform. The party high command which decided to snap ties with NC is now in deep consultation mode to revive its political fortunes after it faced decisive defeat in the last Parliamentary elections. "The party has taken a big political gamble by snapping ties just ahead of Assembly polls, but to capitalize on it, we need people with clean public image and understanding to project Congress vision and policies among the people," said a senior Congress leader. A hint about possible dropping of some Ministers and sitting MLAs was dropped by PCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz on Sunday when he said the list has been prepared and sent to the party high command. The party in-charge of the State, Ambika Soni also dropped a hint of similar action. "In politics it's the perception which matters most. The public must have an impression that Congress is re-inventing itself and is serious to fight corruption and bring clean governance and for it we need good faces. Can't rely on old faces with lost credibility. It's a crucial election for us as even BJP is on ascendance and can't take any chances this time. And party high command will not want even J&K to slip away from its hands when it had suffered huge reverses in Parliamentary elections," said the senior leader from Delhi, wishing not to be named. |
