Estates' quarters officially vacant, unofficially occupied | Does CM Omar know about it? | | K Koushal JAMMU, July 22: With the Assembly elections coming nearer, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is often heard in almost every public function talking about the eradication of corruption but it is strange that the Estates Department, which is presently headed by him, is alleged to be neck-deep in corruption. According to sources, officials of Estates Department have remained unsuccessful to take action against the "corrupt" officials who are allegedly selling accommodation of the department to some people. Irony is that the department has also failed to take action against the illegal occupants of estates' quarters. Early Times has got to know from reliable sources that quarter No 73-D, Toph Sherkhania, which is a staff quarter, has allegedly been provided to an "illegal" occupant for the past some time. The story does not end here, as in a similar case another quarter No 3, old upper Ahata Amar Singh, was allegedly occupied by a lady but no action had been taken in this case as yet despite representations by some people to Director Estates. "When the quarter was occupied by the lady, who is presently staying there, explanation of a chowkidar was sought but due to unknown reasons the matter was hushed up and the lady continued to live there", said sources. When contacted, Director Estates, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed rejected the claims of the illegal occupation of quarters and refused to talk over the issue. |
