HC seeks details about relief distribution mechanism in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 12 : A Division Bench of High Court on Wednesday asked Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir to file details within one week about the mechanism adopted by them for regulating distribution of relief among flood affected people by NGOs and others in the state. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, a bench of Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice D S Thakur also direct Director Information to get a public notice published in two daily newspapers having large circulation, both in Kashmir Division and Jammu Division, in which all those persons who on account of recent floods were displaced from their areas and were accommodated in the tented accommodations, be asked to approach the concerned Deputy Commissioners by filing an application indicating therein that they are still living in the tented accommodations and have not been provided safe accommodation to avert the adverse affects of winter chill. "Notice may be got published within two days. The affected people to approach the concerned Deputy Commissioners within three days thereafter, who, after the claims to file the report by or before next date," the court said and posted the matter for further consideration on November 18. "This information be also published in electronic media," the court ordered. The PIL filed by advocates G A Lone and Jahangir Iqbal Ganie pertains to death, damage, destruction and devastation to human life, public and private property due to the devastating floods and the consequent remedial measures including rehabilitation, rebuilding, relief and payment of compensation. |
