Vested interests accuse PDP of founding BJP rule through backdoor
Governor's Rule

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jan 12: It's just not fair. It is not the PDP that created a situation forcing the State Governor to bring the State under his own rule by invoking section 92 of the J&K Constitution, notwithstanding the fact that it had reportedly insisted that the BJP should accept its pre-conditions, including the suggestion that the office of the Chief Minister must remain with the PDP for the entire term of six years and the BJP asserting its position being the second largest party and winning over 70 per cent of the seats from Jammu province. There was time for the PDP and the BJP to clinch some power-sharing formula till January 18 and both the parties were trying their best to iron out their difference. It was the caretaker Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his defeated party that created a constitutional crisis acting in an irresponsible manner. Hence, it would be unfair to blame the PDP or the BJP for the imposition of the Governor's rule.
However, the vested interests and hardliners in the Valley, which had unleashed a relentless campaign to force the PDP not to tie up with what they called communal BJP, are now accusing the PDP of creating a situation that established the BJP rule in the state through backdoor on January 8. "The Governor is an appointee of the President and holds office during the pleasure of the President. It appears that PDP was so pre-occupied with the undisturbed hope of coming to power that it could not reason out the arithmetic of a polarized vote in the three regions. PDP disregarded the democratic outcome of the vote and tried to negotiate a full six year term of CM's berth with the BJP and found itself alone in a political cul de sac. Or it may be that PDP has deliberately orchestrated a situation to allow BJP a stealthy passage into the J & K governance and after testing the popular sentiment, may settle down with BJP for a safe and steady government to serve its political interests," they are saying to defame the PDP and undermine the Jammu's mandate that favoured the BJP.
Not just this, they are also saying that it is not 1931, 1947, 1975, 1987 or 2002 but it is 2015; that PDP has been voted in to keep BJP out and therefore an alliance with BJP would mean a betrayal and difficult times in future; and that now that BJP has been let in through the Governor's rule, it would always be held against PDP that it might have conspired in helping BJP to be in Kashmir and later shake hands with it as an unavoidable consequence.
Significantly, these vested interests are also urging the PDP to give up the idea of forging an alliance with the BJP and suggesting that it would be better if the PDP forms a grand alliance with other Kashmir-centric parties like the NC and the Congress and forms the next government in the state. The PDP must see to it that the BJP is kept out of the state's governance is their major refrain. "If PDP had not been fooling the people during elections and is not part of any conspiracy to have BJP sitting in the governance through Governor's rule, number are there for the formation of a government. Jammu and Kashmir is an exceptional case and it merits to have an exceptional governance to be able to keep a broad spread of popular mandate. The formation of a grand alliance of various State based parties and in case of a need including the Congress is the way forward. Governor's rule would not reflect the voters trust and would be looked at with deep suspicion. PDP has no choice but to move with the changed times in Kashmir. We should not fail to form a Government for the people who voted for it'.
It needs to be underlined that any move to keep the BJP out of power or any grand alliance between the PDP, the NC and Congress would create an unprecedented situation in Jammu province where the people voted for a party hoping that their region would obtain the political status it deserved in the state's polity. There is no doubt that the vested interests and communal forces in the Valley are playing dubious games which have the potential of disturbing peace in Jammu province and strengthening the hands of those in Jammu who want this state to trifurcated to end the Valley domination over Jammu and Ladakh. It is hoped that the PDP would not walk into the vested interests' dangerous anti-Jammu trap and adopt an approach that is not rigid and that is state and nation-centric.
