DSEJ exhorts construction agencies to speed up construction work of new schools | | | Bivek Mathur

Jammu, Jan 12: Taking cognizance of the news story published in January 11 edition of the Early Times titled "Omar, Tara proved weak administrators; Out of 636 schools approved by GoI only 92 built", Director School Education Jammu R A Inqlabi today called for speeding up the construction work of new school buildings under SSA and RMSA in Jammu and Kashmir. He exhort the construction agencies to speed up the construction work so as to complete the same within the stipulated time period, while taking a review meeting of Education Department in Reasi district. The meeting, as per the release was attended by all the Principals/ Zonal Education Officers and Headmasters of the district wherein a threadbare discussion was held on status of up-gradation of schools, early completion of under execution school buildings, provision of drinking water facilities etc. Meanwhile, Inqlabi also said that Zonal officers have to ensure that offices located in far-off areas are serving the cause of education in the desired manner and all the staff under them adhered to office timings besides delivering duties in efficient manner. It is worthwhile to mention here that Early Times in its January 11 edition has reported that a total of 636 new schools/infrastructure were approved by Government of India (GoI) for Jammu and Kashmir from 2009 to 2015 out of which the state could only complete 92 schools which constituted just 14.47% of the total schools approved, while work in 246 schools was in progress and work on 248 schools couldn't even begin. The newspaper has further reported about the year-wise progress achieved in construction of new schools under RMSA and SSA by quoting a report which reads that 69 schools were approved in 2009-10, of which only 29 schools were completed (42.03%) and work on 30 schools is in progress with work on 41 schools yet to start. In 2010-11, 182 schools were approved for construction out of which only 43 schools were completed (23.63%) with work on 88 schools was in progress and work on remaining 51 schools was yet to be started. Similarly in 2011-12, 275 schools were approved for the construction of which only 20 schools were completed (7.27%) with work on 128 schools in progress and work on 127 schools yet to be started. Further it was reported that Union government didn't approve any work for the year 2012-13 and 2013-14 due to the slow progress of civil works in Jammu and Kashmir. |
