MLA Rajesh Gupta reiterates to revive heritage of 'Jammu city'

Jammu, Jan 27: Asserting that Jammu city known as City of Temples has a great historical significance and rich cultural and religious heritage, MLA Jammu (East) Rajesh Gupta today reiterated to revive its pristine cultural and heritage glory with mega melas like Maha Shivratri festival and etc.
MLA Rajesh Gupta while addressing a meeting of various NGOs and religious organization ahead of Maha Shivratri announced a three day long mega mela (festivity) starting from February 15 comprising cultural programmes, bhakti sangeet , variety of Dogra food cuisine and sports events.
MLA informed that Tourism Department too has been roped in this very kind of festivity in Jammu. BJP MLA also said that due directions have been issued to the Director Tourism besides senior officers officials from Jammu Municipal Corporation. Department of Floriculture, Power Development Department, Public Health Engineering Department and the district administration to take all effective measures to make the auspicious Shivratri festivity a success. He also said similar programmes are on cards to be held at other religious places as well so as to bring the Jammu eco-tourism on the national and international tourist map. He also appealed Information Department to give wide publicity of this Mela for better public response. Besides these MLA assured to carry o development work of the area in a sustained manner as promised election time including work on Gandola project a long pending demand of Jammuites.
Pertinent to mention that Shiv Khori temple assumes a religious significance among Hindus due to the fact that it not only houses Aapshambu (self manifested), but also has a holy cave known by the name as Jamavant (Bear God) Cave. According to locals myths it is also believed that Pandavas spent some time inside the temple cave during their exile. Both the temple and cave attracts huge number of devotees and tourists throughout the year.
