NPSU demands reduction in passengers’ fare, burns effigy of state admin | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 29 : National Panther Student Union (NPSU) staged protest demonstration against the state administration and also brunt effigy. They also demanded immediate reduction in passenger and transport fares in the state. Addressing the gathering, State President NPSU Thakur Virender Singh said that the state administration has failed to revise the passenger fare and transport charges in accordance with the steep fall in the global oil prices. He stated that the administration was trying to create undue credit of global decrease in oil prices but no benefit has been percolated to the common people especially the student fraternity. He further revealed that the Union Government keeps on levying huge duty on the petroleum products despite of decline in the oil prices in the global market. He exhorted the GOI to slash the excise duty and also the passenger fare so that the immediate relief is provided to the people especially the students who are living below the poverty line and in the farflung areas. He claimed that student fraternity was the worst sufferers as the excess fares are direct burden on them to afford besides the heavy fees they pay for their studies. NPSU shall submit the memorandum to the RTO Jammu urging to slash the passenger fares without delay so that common masses including the students are liberated from the burden of hefty fares. Among others who were presented in the demonstration included Sanjeev Singh, Rahul Sharma, Lovely Singh, Rupesh Singh, Billa, Nika-Niks, Shubam Jasrotia, Nitin Singh, Sahil, Arun, Vikram and others. |
