Issue-less NC loses base across state, party leaders lose sight of peoples problems | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 29: National Conference, once the leading mainstream political party in the state is fast losing its base among the people since the party leaders are resorting to single line agenda these days in order to remain in news. Instead of chalking out the future course of action as how to bounce back, the National Conference leaders are beating the bushes hoping against hope that people would like that but that seems to be a distant possibility as on date. These people have made their agenda of taking pot shots at Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) for allying with Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for forming the next government in the state. From Omar Abdullah to Ali Mohammad Sagar and from Junaid Azim Mattu to Devinder Singh Rana the NC leaders these days leave no stone unturned to defame the PDP and its leadership. These people accuse the PDP leaders of going for a sell-out following the possibility that PDP-BJP are all set to form the next government in the state. It seems that there is no issue that can be pursued by NC leaders in the present times. The National Conference leaders should understand the point that people of the state voted for a change during the assembly elections held in November and December last year. If both the PDP and BJP fail to form the government then the people would never forgive them and they would rue as why they voted for change. They should also accept the fact that NC and Congress were vehemently rejected by the people in the state. The criticism of NC with regard to PDP's tie up with BJP is good for the sake of argument, but at the same time some other things need to be understood. If NC could be part of the government headed by BJP in the centre what is the harm if PDP joins hand with BJP for forming the next government in the state. If BJP party is not untouchable for the National Conference how it can be so for the PDP. People of the state cutting across regions and religions want development and it was for this reason only that they voted for BJP in Jammu and PDP in Kashmir. Development has to be the driving force and this has to be understood by all the parties more so by those who are on verge of forming the next government in the state. It would be better for the National Conference leaders to develop a strategy as how to regain its position on the political horizon of the state. Accusing the PDP of being opportunist for its tie up with BJP would not be accepted by masses in general as people in present times want results and not rhetoric from the political parties. Omar Abdullah and his company should pull up the socks and carry out the damage control exercise so that party gets reasonable seats in the scheduled 2020 assembly elections. Hopefully, better sense would prevail upon them and they would take the corrective action. |
