Eight years on, no proposal to construct office complex | Department of Science & Technology facing neglect | | Bijay Charak
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 29: Department of Science and Technology is facing utter apathy and neglect of the government and the act can be substantiated by the fact that the department is operating from a rented buildings for which huge money is being paid as rent. More astounding is the fact that while the construction work on the building of the department in Srinagar is being done at snail's pace, in Jammu, despite the fact that department has purchased land eight years back, there are no plans to start the construction of building. Reliable sources informed Early Times that in 2006-07 the department of Science and Technology purchased land at Chand Nagar for the construction of regional office complex Jammu from Jammu Auqaf, but the department has shown no intention to construct the building despite the lapse of eight years and huge money is being paid in rent. They further said it was proposed to construct the office complexes incorporating solar passive architectural techniques besides making provision for installation of other active energy conserving devices including Solar Air Heaters, Solar Water Heating Systems, Building Integrated Photovoltaic Systems, Trombe Walls, Air Ducts, Solar Glazed Spaces, Green Houses , but all claims of state government have fallen flat. When contacted, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dr. P R Dhar said that the construction work of Kashmir complex office was in progress and after completion of said work, the department would start the construction of Jammu office. "It is impossible for department to construct both the buildings at the same time because the department is short of funds", Dhar said. |
