BJP may ask Mufti to rope in independent MLAs | Rajya Sabha Polls | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 29: Bharatiya Janta Party is mulling to ask the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rope in the independent MLAs from Kashmir for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls, slated to be held on February 7, to ensure the victory of all the four candidates of both the parties. Sources told Early Times senior BJP leader and Minister of state in Prime Minister's Office Dr Jitendra Singh today met the party legislators and senior leaders to prepare a fool proof strategy to ensure victory of both the BJP candidates Shamsher Singh Manhas and Chander Mohan Sharma. BJP-PDP combination is secure on three Rajya Sabha seats and may have to work hard to win over the support of Kashmir based independents to defeat the Congress candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad. A meeting between BJP leaders and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is also likely to take place on Saturday to discuss the poll strategy. Both PDP and BJP with 28 and 25 members in their kitty respectively are essentially relying on the support of Independent candidates to ensure victory of all the four candidates of BJP-PDP combination. Dr Singh while talking to reporters later evaded direct replies over the issue of government formation in JK and agenda of today's meeting but informed sources revealed the discussions revolved around convincing PDP patron to woo some of the Independent legislators to support PDP-BJP combine during the Rajya Sabha polls. |
