PDP-BJP keep contentious issues under carpet | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 29: The PDP and the BJP are said to have decided to keep three contentious issues under the carpet and instead work for providing good governance to the people of J&K. Party sources said that sustained talks between the senior BJP leaders from New Delhi and the PDP top brass have resulted in narrowing down differences between the two parties. The differences were ironed out after the two sides agreed to keep the issues related to Article 370,AFSPA and citizenship rights to West Pakistan refugees under the carpet. According to them, the BJP agreed that AFSPA could be lifted with further improvement in the security scenario in the state and that too with the consent and approval of the Army authorities. Reports said that the PDP succeeded in getting another concession from the BJP. The BJP is said to have ultimately agreed to allow Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to occupy the Chief Minister's chair for full six years and the man from the BJP would be installed as Deputy Chief Minister. If this plan was given a final nod this would mean that Dr Jitendra Singh, MOS in the centre would not be dislodged. Earlier reports had stated that in case the two sides agreed on rotational Chief Ministership in that case Dr Jitendra Singh maybe the BJP's candidate for the post of Chief Minister. Indications are that Dr Nirmal Singh could get the Deputy Chief Minister's post. Sources said that the new Government may be formed a week after the Delhi Assembly poll results were out on February 10. Once the BJP and PDP join hands for the Government formation in J&K Prime Minister, Narendra Modi may induct one PDP MP in the council of ministers which he was going to expand within next one month. In November he had expanded his council of Ministers by inducting 21 new faces. Reports said that there is a race between Hamid Karra and Muzaffar Hussain Baig the two MPs. Indications are that Modi would like to induct Mehbooba Mufti in his cabinet but the PDP Chief does not seem to be interested because she is apprehensive of the fallout in Kashmir. |
