For appeasing PDP, BJP remains mum on WPRs | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 30: BJP which has been championing the rights of the West Pakistan refugees decided not to speak about the issue. The silence comes over severe criticism in the Valley-both by the mainstream and separatists leadership-criticising the recommendations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee for citizenship rights to these refugees. “The party stand on it is clear,” was the reply of the MoS Jitendra Singh, when asked to comment on the criticism in the valley about JPC recommendation. Not only that, when asked to state the party stand, the minister wished not to respond. Singh is the only union minister from the State and is seen as the face of the party in Jammu Kashmir. His silence is seen as a political compulsion to prevent any conflict with the PDP with which it is holding talks on the government formation and also supposedly not give a handle to the separatists to whip up communal passion on this issue to be used against the BJP. “The BJP has started to kneel down before the separatists even before the government formation. It’s reflective of how the party will safe guards the rights of the Jammu and stand against the anti-national forces,” said a senior BJP leader, wishing not to be named. The valley especially the media in the Valley is going hammer and tong on this issue and is trying to put up as a design to change the demographic character of the State, which is seen in many quarters as an attempt to stream role the fundamental rights of the refugees. The home ministry had repeatedly asked the state government to give one time exemption to these refugees but state government kept silent on it just saying it is a political issue. “The State is under Governor Rule and if the party desires it can now ask him to issue an ordinance on this issue which can later be approved in the Assembly where the BJP has enough number and more importantly is in power at the Centre. If it fails to do it now, it shows the duplicity of the party which had only emotionally blackmailed the people of the Jammu and more importantly the refugees,” said a senior official, who is privy to the developments. |
