5 yrs on, Critical Care Ambulances fail to hit roads in JK | 25 tempos provided by centre turn into scrap | | Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 30: Even after five years, much hyped Critical Care Ambulances (CCA) have failed to hit the roads in Jammu and Kashmir due to the alleged lackadaisical approach of the employees of the Health Department. Official sources told Early Times the Union Government had sanctioned Rs 5 crore and procured 25 simple tempos (ambulances). These ambulances were to be fully equipped with critical care system under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). It would have benefitted large number of people in case of medical emergency and trauma. "Interestingly, the tempos which were acquired to be equipped as CCAs have been standing at the department's Nagrota yard from past five years and are fast turning into scrap. The plan has been put in cold storage due to administrative hassle," sources added. They claimed the officials of Health Department informed that the project could not take off due to dispute with the firm which was assigned the task of modifying the ambulances and the tender was canceled due to administrative hassels. Sources said ambulances would have provided a major relief to people living in far-off areas, especially in emergencies like road accidents, cardiac arrest or splinter or fire arm injuries. However, the government has failed to pursue the project with union government. When contacted Jammu and Kashmir Mission Director, Dr Yashpal Sharma said, "Our work was to provide funds from the union government. Director Health Services Jammu and Kashmir are monitoring the proposal and they know about the latest updates." Dr Baljeet Pathania, DHS Jammu said that he cannot comment on the issue. |
