4 yrs on, case against LA speaker's son gathers dust | Gul's kin was caught with 28 chits during LLB exams | | Early Times Report srinagar, Jan 30: The case registered against Younis Gul, son of the speaker, of the legislative assembly, Mubarak Gul, is gathering dust for the past four years as no action was taken against Younis, who was caught red-handed while copying in Jammu University's LLB examination in 2010. As many as 28 chits were recovered from the possession of Younis but his father used his influence and ensured that no action is taken against his son. Gul, who was the advisor of then chief minister Omar Abdullah, was elevated to the post of the speaker of the Legislative Assembly- the highest democratic institution in the state. Though, his son, Younis was arrested by a defiant Jammu University administration and a strong case was made against him, four years have passed and no action has been taken against him. "Mubarak Gul's son was caught using unfair means while writing his second semester paper of third year LLB in Jammu University's Law faculty. During routine checking the invigilators found 28 paper slips relevant to the paper in his possession on August 23, 2010," sources added. Ironically, last year only, Omar - the working president of National Conference made Mubarak Gul's son the vice- president of the Youth National Conference, caring little about his past and the claims of the party to stand for justice and fair approach. The civil society in Kashmir has been aghast over government not punishing people involved in such acts. People here maintain that the lawlessness and anarchy ruled the roost during the erstwhile NC-Cong regime. It has also become a talk of the town that how come the kith and kin of politicians enjoy the political patronage despite being the outlaws. "We hope the pending cases against the next of kin of ministers will be brought into limelight to uphold the democratic principles. If culprits are shielded, it will disappoint the masses. We believe that the law must take its course in punishing the culprits, irrespective of their background and influence," said a social activist. Apart from his son, the daughter of Mubarak Gul, Safina Gul also made it to the headlines when Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) selected Safina for a post-graduate diploma in ophthalmology under the reserved "Rural" category despite the fact that she was neither in possession of the essential qualification (five years of continuous working in rural areas) nor had ever applied under any reserved category. Justice JP Singh of Jammu & Kashmir High Court stayed Safina Gul's selection and issued notice, among others to CM's Advisor, for misusing his official position. |
