Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Jan 30: Thousands of people have been put to hardships due to inordinate delay in the completion of N.S Bridge, dilapidated condition of roads and lack of transport facility in Uri town of Baramulla district in North Kashmir.
It is almost 50 to 60 kms distance from Baramulla to Uri and this particular road has an importance because of Srinagar- Muzaffarabad bus service which runs almost for four days in a week and that too Karwani-Aman bus service and trade between two countries India and Pakistan.
Local residents of Nambla Uri Abdul Rashid told Early Times that, "the bridge was supposed to complete in two years but due to some technical problems concerned authorities stopped the construction work on it.
Almost in a week, about three to four fatal accidents take place in the far flung villages of Uri town. Despite bringing the matter to the notice of the department concerned, the repair work on this dilapidated road has not been taken up, local said.
A number of potholes on it are further posing a serious threat, especially to those who ride two-wheelers and try to negotiate during night hours.
Rashid added and said that. "It is a big problem for we people as we know that we don't have good roads and bridges here in our area, we all know that due to technical snag construction work has been stopped here on this N.S Bridge.
There are hundreds of problems like after 6 pm you don't have a facility of transport from Uri to Baramulla due to which common masses suffers a lot.
Another local of Tilawari said that, "Many villages in and around the Nandh Singh (N.S) bridge like Nambla, Garkote, Laghama, Bandi, Tilawari, Silikote, Balkote and other adjoining areas are facing difficulties.
A group of locals said that if the bridges in far flung areas are built, it can shorten the distance by 15 kilometers to reach the main town of Uri.
Few years back authorities had assured us that the bridge would be completed within one year, but it is learnt that the executing agency has failed to construct the bridge in a stipulated period of time, otherwise there are hard iron gauges worth lakhs were lying on it, which has put the common masses in a state of melancholy, they maintained.
Concerned authorities of Beacon and R&B should see the problems of common masses at the earliest so that we couldn't suffer in future, otherwise accidents will occur due to incompletion of bridges and roads, land sliding and other problems on a regular basis, locals said.
