While BJP-PDP negotiated alliance, Omar showed desperation for power | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 18: Immediately after announcement of results of the assembly elections, a shocked but seemingly defiant Omar boasted of having proved the critics wrong. "They had written us off but we have managed to get fifteen seats," he said and ruled out any possibility of alliance with the BJP. However, next day on December 24, he flew to Delhi and met the BJP leader Amit Shah. It is believed that the duo discussed modalities for a BJP-National Conferene alliance. It is also believed that Omar sought the post of Chief Minister which Shah did not agree to. Instead he offered him the post of Deputy Chief Minister or a berth in the union cabinet. The BJP leadership even contacted former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah who had no objections with the alliance. But Omar refused to give up his demand of Chief Ministerial post. The talks broke but Omar played another card. He resigned as acting Chief Minister and in a meeting with Governor NN Vohra, he offered support to PDP. But, alas! Omar's desperation for coming back to power did not materialize as PDP rejected his offer. Omar could not even become the leader of opposition and for the next six years,. He is going to stay glued to his computer to feast his followers with spicy tweets. |
