JK Govt fails to utilize 93 Cr for damaged bridges | | | Arun Singh Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 18: Despite release of requisite financial assistance from Centre Government a month ago, the State Government and the nodal authorities have failed to start re-construction/repair works of some odd 100 strategic bridges damaged in heavy rain/flash floods last year in Jammu region. Sources told Early Times that flash floods destroyed 587 bridges across the state while in Jammu region over 100 bridges suffered huge damage. "For the repair and re-construction work of these bridges particularly in Jammu region, Center government had released funds to the tune of Rs 93 crore in two installments but till date the work on the same has not been started by the concerned authorities due to unknown reasons," they said. They further informed that the 50% of the total amount to the tune of Rs 41.5 crore was released was released nearly a month ago by the center government to state as a first installment and later recently state government received its second installment. "Notwithstanding fact that it had been more than six months since the flood devastation which caused damage over hundred of vital, significant bridges in the Jammu province yet the work on repair has not taken off," they alleged. However, In Jammu district, one motorable bridge over the Niki Tawi River, a portion of it was washed away last year, which was very important according to security point of view but till date the work on it has not started and as a result over 40 villages, having a population in thousands were cut-off due to damages on the bridge. The fourth Tawi Bridge had also suffered huge damaged second time recently and required immediate repair but the negligence on the part of the concerned authorities people were bound to suffer. |
