Third militant attack in two years leaves plethora of unanswered questions | Security agencies suspect local help | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 20: In yet another security lapse on International Border, Pakistan sponsored terrorists carried out a well planned terror attack in Kathua District resulting into the killing of seven persons including two civilian, three security personals and two dreaded terrorist who caused blood bath inside Rajbagh police station today in six hour long gun battle. Friday's attack is the 3rd major terror attack in Kathua district in last two and half years. The first terror attack was carried out by the Pak sponsored terrorists on September 26, 2013 when three heavily-armed terrorists attacked a police station in Hiranagar and an Army camp in Kathua and adjoining Samba District killing ten people, including four policemen and an Army officer Lt Col Bikramjeet Singh. While the last terror attack in the same District was carried out almost a year ago on 28-03-2014 resulting in the killing of an army personal and two civilians, an outfit calling itself the 'Shohada Brigade' had claimed responsibility for the last terror attacks. However, security forces believe that the organization behind the pervious as well as today's attack is the shadow wing of Lashkar-e-Toiba. The similarity between previous and this terror attack is that both the attacks were carried out on Friday and same modus operandi was used by the terrorist to sneak into Indian side. The sources informed the "Early Times" that militants sneaked into Indian Territory hours before the terror attack, added that after entering into Indian side by taking the benefit of darkness, these militants hid themselves near National Highway and used the civilian vehicle to reach the nearby police station. The intelligence sources said that on the basis of the inputs and movements of the militants across the border, various security agencies had already sounded an alert to both centre as well as the state about possible terror strike in Jammu border belt. The sources further elaborated that the intelligence agencies termed the incident as security lapse on part of the security forces responsible for guarding the borders. The sources said that like previous incidents, BSF and Army will order separate inquiries to probe into the incident, which will end inconclusively. Meanwhile the security agencies are suspecting some local help in Friday's terror attack. The sources said that without local help, it is not possible for the terrorist to carried out the attacks. The sources said that after preliminary inspection of the border area in and around today's terror attack site, no evidence was found about the fresh infiltration. The sources said that there is also possibility that terrorist might have used some alternative route to enter into Jammu and Kashmir and are also probing the reports of Lashkar-e-Toiba joining hands with Punjab based terrorist outfits and possible help provided by these Punjab based former terrorist organizations to LeT in carrying out the terror attacks in J&K. The sources said that agencies on the basis of regular inputs also carried out search of any possible underground tunnel, but added that no such tunnel was found by the security agencies till date, adding that the search for presence of any underground tunnel is a continuous process as the militant organizations active in Pakistan are changing plans and strategy to infiltrate into India regularly. |
