Fidayeen attack on Rajbagh Police station | 2 militants among 6 killed | | Arun Trisal Early Times Report KATHUA, Mar 20: Suicide attackers struck at Rajbagh police Station in Kathua early Friday morning. Fierce gun fight between security personal and the attackers that began following the attack left three security personnel and one civilian martyred, while two attackers were also eliminated. The Combing operation is underway to rule out presence of any more terrorists. Danish Rana, IGP Jammu confirmed the attack and announced Killing of two militants. Eleven persons have been injured in the attack - seven CRPF personnel, a policeman and a civilian. Persons who scarified their lives in the encounter are Parshotam lal S/o Prakash Chander R/o Bandar, Rajbagh Of JK Police , Suraj Motree and Satish Kumar of 121 bn of CRPF. After receiving the report of Fidayeen attack, Jammu-Pathankot highway was sealed which was later opened after conclusion of 6 hour long gun battle. Check posts and barriers have also been erected over security concerns. Danish Rana, IGP accompanied with Shakeel Baigh, DIG Jammu Kathua Range, SSP Kathua Neeva Jain, Nasir Hussain, Addl. SP with contingents of security forces rushed on the spot after getting information. Anti- Fidayeen Squad darely handled the encounter and minimized the casualties of security forces. Rana appraised that there were two attackers in military uniforms. The attackers opened indiscriminate fire at the Rajbagh police station a little before 6 am. The police station is located barely 15 kilometres from the International Border. IGP added that eleven other police and CRPF personnel have been injured in the attack, third in Kathua district in the last one-and-a-half years. He said militants gunned down the guard at the main gate before entering into the premises of the police station, Rajbagh. Two terrorists had taken at least 5 police personnel hostages inside the police station. IGP said the militants wearing Army uniforms intercepted a jeep going from Jammu to Pathankot on the pretext of checking the vehicle. He informed that the ultras then hijacked the jeep which had three passengers on board and fled towards the Rajbagh Police Station where they opened fire on a sentry and killed him. IGP said the attackers could be a fresh group of infiltrators who might have crossed the border last night but Security forces and police teams immediately rushed to spot and killed the two militants. The injured were identified as Mohan Singh S/o Ompal R/o Haryana, Praveen Kumar S/o Jai Prakash, R/o Haryana, Rajkunwar S/o Charan Singh Haryana, Bhagwan Singh S/o Shyam sunder R/o Bihar, Jankar Prakash S/o Jankar Ishan, R/o Maharastra, Bharat Prestee S/o Padar Prestee of CRPF men whereas Diwakar Singh SDPO Border, Aditya Sharma S/0 Mukesh Chander R/0 Haripur of JK police and alone civilian Lakhveer Singh S/o Rooplal R/o Mansar Mukerian, driver. Earlier, District authorities closed traffic on National Highway 1A and Educational institutions over security concerns. Students, who had to appear in 12th class examination, could not reach the examination centre and demanded rescheduling of their paper. People hailing from Kathua District criticized loop holes in security at International Border and said Union government should set up an inquiry to investigate the negligence of the security forces. Ram Kumar, a local and eye witness of the incident said if security forces can't defend their police station how can they ensure security to civilian. |
