Former militant turned Ikhwani calls separatists 'murderers' | Pot calling kettle black! | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 20: Militant turned Ikhwani turned politician, Usman Majeed, who won the 2014 assembly elections from north Kashmir's Bandipora assembly segment on Congress ticket on Thursday termed separatists as "murderers" forgetting that he was a part of the militant camp till mid nineties and then he joined infamous Ikhwan camp, which was known for its notorious activities. Though no case or FIR was registered against Majeed but sources claim that as a militant he was involved in many cases. After deserting the militant camp he joined Ikhwan-ul-Muslimeen led by late Kuka Parray, who was shot dead by the militants in 2002. Usman Majeed contested 1996 assembly elections unsuccessfully as a candidate of Awami League, led by Kuka Parray. He (Majeed) contested the 2002 assembly polls as independent candidate and emerged victorious. He was inducted as the Minister of state by the former Congress Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in his cabinet in 2006. During his tenure as MLA Bandipora from 2002 to 2008, Majeed's performance remained dismal and he paid the price for it as he was defeated by the PDP candidate, Nizamuddin Bhat, from Bandipora. Majeed calling separatists stone pelters and "murderers" is like "kettle calling pot black." "Majeed tried to score points over BJP by taking a dig at separatists. He forgot that MLAs of his party to seek the vote of Er Rashid in the recent Rajya Sabha polls gave in writing that hanging Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was a mistake committed by the Congress led UPA government," said an analyst. He said that Congress shared power first with PDP and then National Conference for 12 years. "When Congress was in power it never called separatist "murderers" or "killers" as they were least bothered about their activities," the analyst added. He said, "Majeed before giving sermons about who are the representatives of people should first peep into his past and then talk. Tales of terror unleashed by Ikhwan, the group which Majeed was part of, still send shivers down the spine of people." "Anti-people activities of the Ikhwan and brazen misuse of power by these gunmen maligned the image of the state and added to the alienation in Kashmir," the analyst said. "Kuka Parray had succeeded in bringing all surrendered militants under one roof. They instead of getting reformed acted like a state within a state spreading widespread terror across Kashmir." "Usman Majeed knows it very well that his party Congress has failed miserably and it couldn't do anything for the people of Jammu and Kashmir when it was in power. By raising hue and cry in the assembly a handful of Congress legislators want to prove it to the people that they are patriots but the fact is that Congress and its leaders are responsible for the mess country and Kashmir is in," said a Kashmir watcher. He said that everyone knows that hands of separatists are "smeared with the blood" of innocents as they have been instrumental in "ruining J&K" and keeping the pot boiling to run their shops. "People of Jammu and Kashmir know it very well who is who and a few people raising hue and cry in the House is not going to impress anyone." |
