Omar's Government spent 7 Cr on re-employment of retired people | Tainted Mushtaq Peer got 9 lakh per year | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 20: The former government led by Omar Abdullah has spent around 7 crore rupees on re-engagement of the retired employees whose services were recently terminated by the government. The General Administration Department (GAD) in its detailed list of the people who have been re-employed by the Omar Abdullah government, a copy of which is in possession of Early Times, has mentioned that 100 retired persons were given lucrative postings in various government departments of state which their telephone bills, Travel Allowance (TA) along with monthly salary swelling in crores- putting a direct ruthless burden on state exchequer. What is more surprising in that the list has name of the tainted former BOPEE chairman Mushtaq Ahmad Peer on serial number 82. Peer, who was out behind bars for his involvement in infamous CET paper leak scam of year 2012, was given 80 thousand rupees per month as the salary by the previous state dispensation. Reason for his re-engagement was shown by the government 'For fast track recruitment of non- gazetted posts'. His designation was mentioned as Consultant. What is more disappointing is that Peer's name earlier was also inducted in various scams. The government while not paying any heed to Peer's past accorded him one of the key posts of the state with mouth watering perks. Details informed that apart from the monthly salaries and perks drawn by the personal staff of the ministers, the total amount spent out of the state exchequer for the re-employment of the retired persons is 6 crore, 28 lakh, 56 thousand. The re-engagement was mostly given on per year basis with the departments include Health services, Agriculture, civil administration and plethora of other state departments. Irfan Yasin, who was re-engaged as the VC LAWDA has received more than one lakh rupees as salary per month with the babu showing his TA and DA bills as more than two lakh rupees. Another retired official, re- engaged by the previous government namely Shabir Ahmad, senior Law Officer engaged in the section of CAPD minister has shown his telephone bills as 15000 rupees apart from his salary which is mentioned in the list as more than twelve lakh. The list describes further that 25 retired employees were re-engaged in the personal section of the ministers. One person namely Akhtar Ali Khan, who was appointed in contractual basis on the recommendation of then Animal Husbandary Minister has received more than 65,14,000 rupees from the government. Interestingly, the person got retired from his services on December 31, 2001 but Omar's government seemed adamant to bring him back. Another person namely Shabir Khan was re-engaged in personal section of Mubarak Gul, then Advisor to CM. He got more than 17 lakh rupees for his good relations with the government. The government at that time while providing enough reasons for the plunder of the state exchequer had stated that in view of the administrative exigencies expressed by various administrative departments, some retired officers, officials were re-employed. The government also admitted that the facilities were being provided to the retired officials, re-engaged in government services, as per the entitlement of the post |
