| Rashid, Lone exchange heated verbal dual over release of funds | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 20: Legislative assembly today witnessed hurling of abuses and charges and counter charges between three MLAs who virtually came to blows over an issue of distribution of funds released by the Road and Building Department under various heads in the state during the NC-Congress government.
Independent MLA from Langate Engineer Rashid's supplementary on a question to government over the state division-wise details of funds released under various heads for various R&B projects drew NC MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone's interruption which irked Rashid who forcefully charged Lone to keep quiet and sit down.
Rashid told Lone to be quite telling him that he is not on the treasury bench." You sit down. You still believe you are a minister and can override any claim. It was my question and let me ask. " said Rashid. He also charged the NC MLA for having killed Afzal Guru. "Afzal Guru Ko Maarne Wale Aap Hain". Rashid said that Lone should be booked under law.
This infuriated Lone who retaliated with counter charge to Rashid that blew up the situation to highly charged exchanges of abuses.
Rahid was demanding the answer on the release of funds during National Conference -Congress regime and said," Funds were distributed only in their own constituencies as if the funds belonged to them only," he charged.
The verbal duel between Rashid and Lone invited Nazir Gurezi's ire alos towards Rashid who joined in chorus with Lone in silencing highly vocal Rashid.
Opposition NC members including Devender Singh Rana and Ali Mohammed Sagar along with Lone and Gurezi strongly objected to the "unparliamentary" language used by Rashid.
NC MLA Devender Singh Rana, meanwhile demanded that the Speaker expunge the "derogatory remarks" made by Rashid, to which the Speaker agreed.
As soon as Rashid began to speak and reiterated that he "stands by his words", Gurezi charged towards him, screaming at him to "control his language, behave like an MLA."
As Gurezi charged towards Rashid along with Lone, the marshals in the House had to intervene.
Heated exchange of words continued between the two sides for some time and the order in the House was only restored after Speaker Kavinder Gupta intervened.
"Behave properly. I expunge these words.
Don't speak such words in the future, I warn you. NC members should not rush like this to attack a member. Please maintain the decorum of the house," the Speaker said. |
