Jammu greets Rajnath Singh with a massive bandh | Is PDP-BJP tie up a turning point? | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 27: Is the PDP-BJP tie-up a turning point a turning point in Jammu & Kashmir? Yes, according to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who only a few days ago also told Arnab Goswami of Times Now that the BJP had no problem with Kashmiri "sub-nationalism" and that the BJP not only appreciated it but also had decided to be very "compensate" while dealing Kashmir and Kashmiri people. In other words, he told Times Now that the BJP, like other fake secular outfits, considered Kashmiri Muslims a separate nation or a race apart that deserved a very special treatment over all others. "The BJP-PDP tie up in Jammu & Kashmir is a turning point because we came together to fight separatism," Jaitley said at a press conference to mark the first anniversary of Narendra Modi government, adding that the "PDP- BJP tie-up in the State has widened the space for mainstream parties in militancy-hit Valley". The PDP-BJP formed coalition government in the state 88 days ago. Has the formation of this coalition government widened space for mainstream parties in militancy-hit Valley and which mainstream parties he referred to? It is difficult to say that the formation of this coalition government has produced the desired results. On the contrary, things both in Kashmir and Jammu have deteriorated to considerable extent. Things in both the regions have assumed alarming proportions. In Jammu, the people, who are ardent believers in and champion of mainstream politics and who voted for the BJP in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections pinning high hopes on it, have been protesting at regular intervals both against the BJP-led NDA Government and the coalition government in the state, saying that "they voted for a wrong party" and that "the Narendra Modi Government has turned out be a curse for the patriotic sections of the society". The people of Jammu had voted the BJP for integration, empowerment and defeating secessionists and communalists in the Valley. That the people of Jammu province are unhappy which could be seen from the fact that they observed two massive bandhs against the BJP on April 24 and today to register their protest against its discriminatory policies towards Jammu and put pressure on the BJP believing that it would establish the sanctioned AIIMS in Jammu and not allow the Kashmiri ruling elite to abandon the ongoing Tawi artificial lake project. The bandh the people of Jammu today organized was politically very significant in the sense that they organized it on the day Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited Jammu to highlight the achievements of the Modi Government. Rajnath Singh was supposed to address a "historic rally", but he couldn't do so because of massive bandh. He could only address a few party workers in a closed room at KK resorts. The fact of the matter is that the entire population of Jammu province has risen in revolt against the BJP not only for its anti-Jammu policies but also for its separatist and militant-friendly policies. A for Kashmir, the situation in this region has turned out to be very frightening. Militants and separatists like Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Shah Geelani are ruling the roost there. Their supporters and Pakistani agents are holding anti-India demonstrations in different parts of the Valley, where pro-Pakistan and pro-independence slogans are raised and Pakistani flags hoisted. And they are conducting anti-India operations under the very nose of the law and order authorities. The so-called mainstream parties in the Valley have also upped their ante against India. They have all extended their support to the separatists in the Valley. There is none in Kashmir who is prepared to play mainstream role there. The situation has worsened to the extent that even office-bearers of the ruling party like Nizamuddin Bhat and Mehboob Beg are expressing views which only strengthen the hands of separatists. Arun Jaitley said the BJP-PDP came together to fight separatism, but what has been happening is just the opposite. The fact of the matter is that the coalition has widened the space for separatists and terrorists and squeezed the space for mainstream politics. It is difficult to say that the BJP would see all these facts in the face and revise its whole approach towards the sensitive Jammu & Kashmir State. The BJP is playing a dangerous game willfully and it would get decimated in Jammu & Kashmir in the process and suffer reverses in the rest of the country as well. There should be no doubt about it. This is the general view. |
