Lobbying starts to occupy J&K DGP's chair after Rajendra retires next yr | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 19: While K Rajendra is to retire in September 2016, seniormost ADGPs have already started lobbying for the coveted post of J&K DGP. Most desirous to become the J&K DGP, one of them has begun tightening his grip over the state police apparatus, besides reviving his links in the Union Home Ministry. He is doing all this to use these connections at the right time. If he succeeds in his endeavour, he is likely to remain DGP till his retirement which is after at least three years. One more senior police officer has also been called back to the state from the central deputation. At present attached with the police headquarters (PHQ), he too is in the race of becoming DGP. Three IPS officers are competent to become DGPs after Rajendra retires in September 2016. There are, however, five officers of 1985-86 batch. Two of them, including a lady officer, complete 30 years of service in December 2016. They are out of race because an officer needs to have 30 years of service to become a DGP. Of the remaining three, S Gopala Reddy is on central deputation but he too will retire in October 2016, ie a month after Rajendra retires. So, only two are left in the race. One of them is a local. Both are completing their 30 years of service in September 2016 when Rajendra retires and would retire in 2019. Both of them are making all out efforts to please the state and central politicians and activating their contacts in the central home ministry. A lot of politics takes place while finalising the name of the DGP. Such a situation had occurred during the Rajendra's time also. One of them would be made DGP while the other may have to go outside the state on central deputation. |
