| Contrary to Omar led Govt, PDP-BJP alliance responds to concerns of members | | Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society meeting | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 19: Contrary to hollow claims of erstwhile Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress government, the PDP-BJP alliance today responded well to the worries and concern of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society members with regard to dilapidated condition of major portion of the historic site owing to slow pace of restoration work by all agencies entrusted with the task. In its first meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed the government agreed to unequivocal suggestion of the members that apart from involvement of experts of international repute, time bound framework was the need of the hour to achieve desired results for this historic monument.
Sources said the nominated members of the Heritage Society (other than those from the government) pointed out at the failure of agencies like INTACH and ASI in showing desired results on ground with respect to renovation and restoration work. Years after they have been assigned this task, there is not much visible on the ground and the government too in the past has not pursued the things swiftly, sources said as some members having pointed out in the meeting which lasted for over two hours at CM's official residence here. Sources said that members also conveyed that the recommendations made during the last four years with respect to expediting work on the portions which are on verge of collapse have fallen on deaf years of the concerned agencies which have been unable to understand the urgency and gravity of situation .
Sources further said there was unanimity that experts of international repute be involved in the project and more importantly a time frame be fixed under which they would be asked to deliver, given the dilapidated condition of most of the structures. One more important aspect of the Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex that came under serious discussion was messy parking slot in the existing arrangement that has added more chaos and congestion in the area. It was felt to identify alternative parking points in order to decongest the area from the existing arrangement. Besides the need for upgrading and maintaining the present park was also raised which was responded in a positive manner by the government. While it was the first meeting of the PDP-BJP government, Omar Abdullah government had not bothered to hold one for the last over one and a half years. |
