Omar eroded credibility of CM's chair, says Dr Beg | Former NC leader spills beans | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 19: The former senior National Conference leader and incumbent chief spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party Dr Mehboob Beg on Friday took on his former boss, Omar Abdullah, head on and blamed him for eroding the credibility of the Chief Minister's chair and acting as mute spectator to the sufferings of people. In a statement here, Dr Beg, former Member Parliament from south Kashmir, said, "The most challenging task ahead of the present Government is to undo the misgovernance and to overturn the erosion of the credibility of the CM's chair that the previous regime has left behind." Dr Beg, who refused to contest the 2014 assembly elections from Anantnag constituency against the incumbent Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, said: "Omar Abdullah had gone on to say that he would only come to know through the media when any part of the state would be put under curfew and also that he was merely asked to take care of the law and order situation when Afzal Guru was sent to the gallows, which shows how obediently he would follow the diktats from the centre while choosing to remain a mute spectator to all of it." Reminding Omar Abdullah that he was the Chief Minister when Jammu and Kashmir witnessed the worst floods of the century in September 2014, Dr Beg said, " Omar was governing the state when the entire Valley was flooded. Everyone knows that the State government had just evaporated from the scene when people needed it the most." Dr Beg added that those criticizing the 'Flood package' are merely doing so on the presumption that this is the final amount and termed is as only a 'beginning'. He said the 'Opposition' also claims that the inflow of funds was a lot liberal under the UPA, then they must also tell the people as to where that money went, as no visible change was seen on the ground during their regime. |
