GMC&H may face de-recognition for want of staff | | | Arun Singh
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 24: Already lagging behind as far as healthcare is concerned, the state seems all set to face de-recognition of the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Sources informed Early Times that according to norms of Medical Council of India, the staff strength in each Medical college was fixed and if there would be shortage of staff, from the prescribed limit, the MCI might derecognize any institution. Presently in GMC&H the staff strength including Associate Professors, Professors is 12.5 percent short which has been reported by Medical Council of India on its official website. “The shortage of staff is a grim reminder for GMC&H administration to either fill up the vacant posts or bear the brunt of de-recognition” sources said. They further informed that the basic reason behind shortage of staff strength of GMC&H was delay in confirmation of lists of faculty members forwarded by Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) of GMC&H. “For the last more than one and half years, the DPC list forwarded by GMC&H to Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has not been vetted by latter, due to which the teaching faculty promotions are not confirmed”, sources said. Sources further informed that for the last many months the JKPSC was running headless due to which the confirmation of DPC lists were not being confirmed. “Earlier when PSC had its full members, the lists forwarded by GMC&H administration were not confirmed and for the last many months, PSC is running headless”, sources said. They further informed that few months back, the Medical Council of India had given strict instructions to fill up all posts and other requirements as per prescribed guidelines in three months, but GMC&H administration had failed to do so. “The MCI may derecognize or may slash 150 MBBS seats from GMC&H”, sources said, adding that administration was well aware of the fact but has been failed to evade the anticipated threat. Sources further said that as per guidelines of GAD , the DPC should be held twice in year and same lists should be forwarded to PSC for its confirmation, but same practice was not being followed by PSC due to its non existence and consequently creating hurdles for GMC&H. They further informed that Medical Council of India counts only those promotions which are by Departmental Promotion Committee and following their criteria by medium of new SRO- 425. Furthermore OPG promotions lose their validity/expired after six month. |
