Several foothills razed to ground, bridge on Kashmir canal constructed without permission | Rampant encroachment on in Kathua | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammu, July 15: Under the nose of district administration Kathua, several Kanals of Shamlat land is encroached upon in village Jagatpur of district Kathua by some affluent builders, reportedly for constructing a housing colony. Several foothills were also razed to ground by builders to prepare the area, adjoining to Pathankot-Kathua railway line, besides a bridge is also constructed on Kashmir canal without permission from Irrigation department. Sources informed Early Times that some builders from Jammu had purchased a piece of land from a villager of Jagatpur. "Just adjoining the land in question, there is more than 30 Kanals of Shamlat land, which is property of all villagers including some families", sources said. They further informed that the owners sold the land to builder, who in turn started encroaching upon Shamlat land. "Inhabitants raised voice against the encroachment of Shamlat land, which was common land of village and took up matter with Deputy Commissioner but all in vain", sources said, adding that a village head was also in league with the builders. Sources further informed that without taking any permission from Jammu and Kashmir Irrigation department, a bridge was also constructed on Kashmir canal for providing connectivity to colony with National Highway. Former Executive Engineer of PHE, informed Early Times that no one took any permission for construction of bridge on Kashmir Canal in Jagatpur village. Moreover, the status of land was also changed by the builder and District Administration didn't take any action. "The land purchased by builder was agriculture land and it is being converted for commercial purposes but administration has turned a Nelson eye", sources said. "Several foothills have been razed to ground and the trees were also cut down by the builder but everyone was silent over the issue and it is evidently clear that huge kickbacks are received by the officials of various departments" sources alleged. Sources further said that the destruction of foothills by the builder was also destroying the land of farmers, as during rains land erosion occurred, causing damage to nearly fields. Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kathua, Atul Gupta said that after getting report from concerned Tehsildar, he would take proper action, if required. |
