Locals brave militant dictates, participate in last rites of DySP (Retd) | | | Early Times Report
Anantnag, July 15: Daring the dictates of militants, a large number of men including youth Wednesday attended the funeral of the Retired police officer who was killed by militants in Ashmuji area of Kulgam district on Tuesday night. Local reports said that a sea of locals assembled and mourned the gruesome killing when the body of slain police official, Bashir Ahmad Dar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (Retired), who was attacked by the militants in the night of Shabe-e-Qadar (holy night) was brought back by his family members from Srinagar this morning. A large number of people from his grief-stricken village, Ashmuji Kulgam attended the funeral of slain police official. Majority of locals recalled their association with the late soul, a local revoked from his memories that he (slain Police official) was always helping his villagers but after retirement he had changed himself very much and was actively contributing. "He was god fearing and pious personality and always was seen offering prayers five times a day," another local said. Meanwhile, Kulgam police has registered an FIR and intensified its anti-militancy operations to nab the attackers. Pertinent to mention here that some militants attacked Bashir Ahmad Dar, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police on late Tuesday night when he was coming out from the local mosque(masjid) after late night prayers (Taravi). "In the shootout, Dar sustained critical injuries as motorcycle borne gunmen shot him from close range, sources said, while adding, "the injured was immediately shifted to SMHS hospital Srinagar where he succumbed to his grievous injuries." The departed officer has served in different positions in the Crime Branch, Vigilance and the DSP headquarters during his tenure. |
