Films, TV serials can promote India-Pak ties, says Kak | | | Early Times Report
Jammu,July 23 : In his book "Behind the Veil",that hit the stands recently, prominent journalist, M.L.Kak has underlined the power of films and TV serials for reducing the level of mistrust between India and Pakistan. Kak has argued that over the years polioticians, civil society activists and bureacrats, who have been trying to promote cordial ties between New Delhi and Islamabad have undermined the importance of mending fences between the two sides through the power of films and TV serials. Over the years one has been able to discern the positive or the negative impact of films and TV serials on the psyche of individuals, on the attitude of politicians and on the thinking of people who matter in the Government and who are opinion makers. Those who have remained engaged in Track I or track II diplomacy have ignored the power of films which could reduce the level of mist rust. Hence Kak has advocated the need for initiating measures for exchange of films between the two sides and for telecasting TV serials. He has supported the first step taken by Z Zindagi that has been telecasting thought provoking serials which portray peoples' lives across the border. Behind the veil gives graphic account of the functioning of Kashmiri separatists who, he claims, thrive on controversies. He claims that these separatists receive morale boost whenever they are invited by the Pakistan High Commission to India during any function in the embassy premises. |
