NSA directs choking funding of separatists | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 23: India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has directed police and intelligence agencies to choke all channels of funding of separatists in Kashmir. He has also directed them to keep a check on the forces infusing radicalization in the Valley and devise strategy to infuse liberal spirit among Kashmiris.During his two-day Kashmir visit earlier this week, Doval held as series of meetings with police and army officials and was briefed about the security and political situation. "He was also told about the recent incidents of local youth, more particularly the educated ones, joining the ranks of terrorists and the tactics deployed to dissuade them," sources told Early Times."The NSA told the officials that radicalization in Kashmir is a dangerous trend and is being fuelled from across the border with money coming from Gulf countries. He said the first thing that needs to be done is to the check the sources of funding and this can be done with exhaustive coordination. He said the central agencies will also pool in all the services for this task," a senior official said.He said the case of money laundering registered by Enforcement Directorate against a colleague of hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani was also discussed during the meeting. According to the sources, the NSA said the central agencies have got information that the ongoing phenomenon of radicalization in Kashmir has been planned by many agencies inimical to India and this is being done to foment more trouble in the country. "The NSA said the recent changes in Kashmir, where secular streaks have been taken away forcibly and money pumped in to lure people in adopting the radicalism is a matter of concern," the sources added. |
