| Two militants eliminated in Tangdhar, Massive search operation on | | | S.Tahir-Ul Haq

KUPWARA, July 23: Two militants were eliminated in an encounter which broke out between suspected infiltrators and Army along the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district on the intervening night of July 22 and 23.
According to senior army official, Army's 26 Rajput manning the fence at Eagle post spotted some suspicious movement on Wednesday morning and launched cordon and search operation in the area.
Official said that as the forces intensified the searches in the area, the infiltrators who have sneaked into this side of Line of Control (LoC) last night opened heavy volume of fire upon the security forces, however the troops retaliated, ensuing a gunfight.
Following the exchange of fire, the suspected infiltrators were gunned down late evening of Wednesday, said official.
Later in the day, the troops along with the additional reinforcement have launched the massive searches in the area to track down the hiding militants.
Meanwhile a Srinagar based Defence spokesperson told Early Times that an attempt of infiltration by heavily armed terrorists in Tangdhar sector of Frontier Kupwara division was eliminated on July 22 and 23 by the vigilant army personnel deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) resulting into the killing of two militants and recovery of weapons and warlike stores.
The dead bodies of militants have been recovered from the site of operation. However the identification and affiliated Tanzeem is yet to be ascertained, Said official.
He said that the militant's movement was spotted along the Line of Control (LoC) at evening hours of July 22. The robust counter infiltration grid immediately picked up the terrorists and kept them under constant surveillance till they reached to the firing range.
In the inclement weather, militants took shelter behind the boulders and intermittent exchange of fire continued on July 22 and 23. He further said that the gunfight resulted in elimination of two militants and splinter injuries to one army officer and a soldier who were evacuated to Army Base Hospital Srinagar. The condition of both army personnel is stable. However the search of the areas was undertaken in the afternoon on July 23 resulted in recovery of two bodies of the slain militants along with two AK-47 rifles, two Rucksacks and other warlike stores, official added.
The search operation of the area was continuing till the last reports came in. |
