PDP-BJP take a cue from Omar's book, block entry of NC leaders to Rajouri | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, July 23: Taking a cue from Omar Abdullah's rule book, the PDP-BJP coalition government today prevented a National Conference 'Sadhbavna' delegation headed by DS Rana to reach Rajouri, which remained under curfew for third consecutive day, to try and broker a peace deal among members of different communities. The NC leaders made desperate bids to plead their case before the local authorities to allow them to visit Rajouri to help local residents defuse the tension but to no avail. During the Kishtwar riots, then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had prevented entry of leaders of different political parties, claiming their presence may vitiate the peaceful atmosphere. "It is undemocratic; the government is fearing that once we go there, it's sinister machinations will get exposed", said Rana, alleging that peace efforts were being scuttled to give a freehand to mischievous political actors who were igniting the volatile situation rather than calming it down. He said the government has failed in instilling confidence among the people by taking appropriate measures, as a result of which the situation has gone out of hands. He also alleged that the PDP and BJP were hand in glove in infuriating the peace loving citizens. Cautioning against divisive politics "being pursued by PDP-BJP coalition in bid to divert the attention of the people from its failures on all fronts," Rana said that covert attempts are being made to divide Jammu and Kashmir on communal and regional lines. "The coalition partners are encouraging trouble by roping in notorious fanatic elements, which have let loose a vicious campaign primarily to disturb the harmony and peace", Rana said. While urging the people to see through the game plan, Rana said that effective counter to this would be maintaining communal harmony and brotherhood for which Jammu and Kashmir is known for. He hoped the people will not fall prey to their machinations and get provoked as this will amount to playing in the hands of anti-social elements. |
