Forest-based industry to be set up in J&K: Minister | | | Early Times Report
jAMMU, July 23: With an aim to generate state economy, Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department for the first time is going to establish wooden industry. "The forest based industry is soon going to be set up by the department to generate revenue to meet the crisis," Forest Minister Bali Bhagat told . He said that to set up these industries, first of all Forest Development Corporation will be revamped which is defunct for the past several years and around 200 employees of the corporation have no work. Bhagat said "A committee has also been formed to give suggestions for revamping the corporation. The committee is also studying the successful model of other states across the country where these corporations are earning profit . It will also hire the services of best experts to formulate projects for the commercial exploitation of forest produce." The Minister revealed that the forest wood will also be used for manufacturing furniture besides other objects and said, " In the first phase, the goods will be sold within the state and later it will be exported to international market. He said, " It is unfortunate that despite having world class wood in the state, Chinese furniture is being imported and supplied in the state. Since March this year, the Forest department has generated a revenue of Rs 1824.331 lakh, he said. Bhagat also said that a zoo will also come up soon in this district for which the land has been identified near Nagrota and the Centre will soon sanction funds for this. " Ropeway project between Patnitop and Mantalai has also been approved while Mantalai will be developed as an International yoga destination, he said. The department is all set to promote eco-tourism to attract more tourists to give a boost to the state economy. Beautiful parks and gardens shall be developed around tourist places and pilgrimages. |
