SMVDU faculty attends International Conference | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 29: This year's Sixth Gordon Research Conference on Plant Metabolic Engineering was organized at Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, USA which was attended by Dr. Sharada M. Potukuchi, Associate Professor, School of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University the only participant from India. She presented a paper entitled: "Production of Bacosides from Shoot Cultures of Bacopa monnieri (L.) Cultured in Growtek and Air Lift Bioreactor" jointly authored by her Ph. D. scholar, Dr. Munish Sharma and Dr. Ashok Ahuja, Ex-Chief Scientist, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu. The theme of the Conference this year was "Harnessing Plant Metabolism for the Bio-Based Economy" and her work on standardization of a procedure for biomass generation and production of valuable phytochemicals - bacosides from the Indian medicinal plant Brahmi well known for its memory enhancing and nervine tonic properties was well appreciated by all the participants of the Conference. The protocol developed in the study is analternative strategy for rapid mass cloning of selected genotype of B. monnieri through airlift bioreactor propagation for getting continuous supply of quality shoot biomass for controlled production of bacosides. |
